Operation SINDOOR was a brief but decisive military campaign launched by India against Pakistan in May 2025. It was conceived as a calibrated, targeted response to the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians in April 2025. The core objective of the operation was to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and launchpads across the Line of Control and deeper inside Pakistan, thereby enforcing India's zero-tolerance policy towards cross-border terrorism. The operation was a significant demonstration of tri-services synergy, unfolding seamlessly across land, air, and sea domains. The Indian Air Force (IAF) executed precision strikes on nine key terror sites using advanced weapons like the SCALP cruise missiles and HAMMER precision-guided bombs, notably targeting the main headquarters of groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

In response, Pakistan launched retaliatory drone and Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) attacks targeting Indian military infrastructure, which were effectively neutralized by India's comprehensive and layered air defence architecture, including the successful interception of a Pakistani missile. Beyond the kinetic military action, Operation SINDOOR also employed potent non-military measures. A key strategic move was India's suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, a step that signaled the grave consequences of state-sponsored terrorism. The operation, which lasted from May 7 to May 10, 2025, successfully eliminated terror threats, reaffirmed India's regional dominance, and established a "new normal" where cross-border aggression is met with a firm and calculated response.
