Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, bordered by Honduras to the north, Costa Rica to the south, and the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea on either side. Known as the "Land of Lakes and Volcanoes," it is home to Lake Nicaragua, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the Americas, and numerous active volcanoes. The capital city, Managua, is the political and economic center. Spanish is the official language, and the culture blends Indigenous, Spanish, and Afro-Caribbean traditions. Nicaragua's economy is based on agriculture, particularly coffee, beef, and sugar, along with tourism and manufacturing. The country has experienced political turbulence, from the Somoza dictatorship to the Sandinista revolution in the late 20th century, and continues to navigate social and economic challenges. Despite these struggles, Nicaragua is celebrated for its vibrant arts scene, colorful festivals, and stunning natural landscapes, ranging from tropical beaches to cloud forests.
