The bar chart illustrates the popularity of women giving birth to their first child in different age groups in Australia over a span of 40 years.
A close examination of the bar reveals that the tendency to delay motherhood gradually become popular in Australia as the age of birth more and more older.
A significant decline was recorded in the bar, marking a 15% reduction in the proportion of women in their early twenties and younger at each interval from over 60%, 35%  to about 30%, 11% throughout the entire period, respectively. As a result, there was an increasing trend in the rate of people aged 25 to 29 and late pregnancy between people aged 30 and 34 years from around 38% to over 50% for the former and rose about 8% for the latter. In the following 20 years, while the former shrunk to approximately 41%, the latter rocketed to nearly 50% surpassing other groups to rank first.
A negligible number of women were recorded borne the first child at the age of 40 and over in 1996 around 5%.
