Cricket is a popular game these days. I am fond of playing cricket. I am a member of the school eleven. I am also member of the school eleven. I am also fond of watching a good cricket match. Last Sunday, I saw a fine cricket match, played between the School team and the College team. A large number of people came to see watch the match. Both the teams were strong.
The captains of both the teams entered the field. There was a toss. The captain of the school team won the toss. So, the college team took the field and the school team went in first t bat. The two batsmen who went in the first, were very good players. We had high hopes from them. But the bowling was strong. So they could not score even a single run for the first ten minutes. In the next fifteen minutes, they scored only ten runs. Then one player was caught out. The next two batsman were also out from the wicket very quickly All of us thought that the whole school team would soon be out. The score stood at 50. The captain made a stand and he was able to pull up the score to a century. The whole eleven was out for 160 runs.
We felt that the school team would lose. We knew that the college team has some really good batsmen. But they had to fight a hard battle totally against our expectations. The school team had a bowler who was very tricky. The college team did a weak beginning. Their first wicket fell in about ten minutes. Their score stood five. They looked nervous. But their captain was a good batsman. He had took up the score to 120. He was caught out. After him, wickets fell one after another. But when the ninth and the tenth batsman came to bat, there was some hope. They hit again and again till the score reached a hundred. At last, one fine catch sent one of the fast scores off the field. But the last batsman was a very tough player. His two sixes and three fours made the match agile. Only three runs were needed to win the match. But he was caught. It was really a sad thing for the college team to lose the match by just three runs only.
The government should move to a rational way to tax savings in the coming budget to encourage Indians to save intelligently. Reform is warranted to break away from the piecemeal approach to tax treatment of savings now in vogue. The Public provident fund is a tax exempt at all three stages of contribution, accumulation and withdrawal, whereas subscribers to the National Pension System pay tax at maturity. A rational approach to the tax treatment savings is the one that was proposed in the original direct taxes code. Specify a reasonable amount of savings that is exempt from taxation of current income. Whether these saving are deployed in short-or long terms assets should not matter. Exempt the contribution, exempt the accumulation and tax the withdrawal at the normal income-tax rate. In this system called exempt-exempt-tax, or EET, tax should be charged only on the part of the income used for consumption. If at the maturity of a saving asset.
