It is said about the history of Kaziranga National Park that there lived a girl named Ranga near a village here who fell in love with a boy named Kazi. When the family members did not agree, both of them ran away from the house and disappeared in the forest. Hence this park has been named Kaziranga after both of them. Another story about Kaziranga is told that during the 16th century, a sage-scholar Srimanta Sankardeva blessed a childless couple Kazi and Rangai and asked them to build a pond at this place so that their The name should always be known. The one-horned rhinoceros, wild water buffalo Wild Water Buffalo and eastern swamp deer in Kaziranga National Park are famous for being the most populated in the world. Altogether 35 mammal species are found in this national park, but 15 of them are now in danger.
