Such efforts are also being made in Indian jails by which criminals start reforming. The importance of the concept that if the criminal reforms, all the problems will go away, is also accepted at all levels. Therefore, the purpose of organizing bhajan-kirtan related to yoga, music, religious education and spirituality in jails is also to improve the attitude of the criminal so that he can spend the rest of his life as a good person. The initiative taken by the Government of Maharashtra to improve the character and attitude of the prisoners is being discussed across the country these days. In Maharashtra, an Abhang competition of bhajans and verses of Vitthal is being organized for the prisoners. Competition is not new to prisoners. But the new thing in this competition is that a provision has been made for exemption from punishment for those who will participate. This exemption is for 30 and 60 days in different stages and there is a provision of 90 days sentence waiver for the prisoners who reach the finale of the competition. In the first phase, 250 prisoners have also been given the benefit of this provision. Certainly, such an initiative will prove to nurture the need to bring a change in the mindset of the criminal. Talking about the judiciary, sometimes even our judges try to convert punishment into service. That's why such decisions are also seen in which criminals are assigned social service, planting trees, serving patients in hospitals as a punishment to purify the mind and mind. The trend of criminals should move towards this path, for this purpose, provisions of incentives like reduction in punishment have been made in Maharashtra. By the way, there is relaxation in punishment even on the parameters of good behaviour, activity, cooperation and discipline, but it should be expected that the experiment of giving this relaxation through competition will prove to take the prisoners on the right path. It is also to be kept in mind that no hardened and professional criminal should be able to take advantage of the remission of sentence through such competitions.
