India is a great country. The civilization and culture here is as old as human origin. On the basis of the vastness of India, it has been given the name of subcontinent. Its ancient name was Aryavarta. It was named Bharatvarsha after the name of King Bharata. The abode of the Vedic Aryans was in the Indus Valley.
The people of Persia modern Iran first entered India from the Indus Valley. They used to pronounce as and they used to call Indus river as Hindu river on this basis they named this country as Hindustan. These people also used the revenge form of Sindhu for the residents of Hindu here. According to Jain mythology, the word Jambudvipa has been used for India in Hindu and Buddhist texts. The word India used for India is derived from the Greek word Indos. The Greeks called Indus as Indus and this country as India.
The jurisdiction of the existing High Courts, the law administered in it and the powers of the Judges continued the same under the Act of 1935 as they were before it. The prohibition which was imposed on the three presidency High Courts in 1915 on their original jurisdiction to take cognisance of any matter concerning revenue was allowed to continue.
The Act of 1935 made specific provision for the salaries, allowances and pensions of the Judges of the High Courts that it will be fixed by Her Majesty on their appointment. It was also provided that none of these will be changed to the disadvantage of a Judge after his appointment. This important provision ensured the independence of the judiciary from any executive interference.
