Rana Kumbha was a great patron of art and literature. He himself was a great musician and had a keen interest in music. He was a great veena player. He wrote works like Sangit Raj, Sangat Mimamsa, Sangat Ratnakar and Suprabandha. Kumbha built a victory tower at Chittor as a mark of his conquest of victory. He strengthened the fortifications of Chittor and built a road through its seven gates. He built the city of Basantpur. He built many inns, palaces, ponds, schools and temples. To protect the kingdom, he built five forts of Kumbhalgarh, Achalgarh, Maddan, Kolana and Vairat. Rana Kumbha patronized many craftsmen and sculptors.
He also patronized great scholars. Mahesh and Atri, composers of the Vijay Tower inscriptions flourished in his court. Rana Sanga, the grandson of Rana Kumbha, was a ruthless brave Rajput ruler who fought many battles. He lost an eye, an arm and had about 88 wounds on his body. He established his supremacy over almost all the Rajput states in Rajasthan.
Rana Sanga successfully fought against the rulers of Gujarat and Malwa. He captured the ruler of Malwa who was wounded and stayed at Chittor till his wounds were healed. He also defeated the Delhi Sultan Ibrahim Lodi in 1519. It is said that he was one of the Indian rulers and nobles who invited Babur to invade India.
It is not clear whether any understanding was reached between Babur and Rana Sanga. He was defeated by Babur in the battle of Khanua in 1527.  Rana Sanga escaped and wanted to renew the conflict with Babur. However, he was imprisoned by his own nobles who considered such a dangerous and suicidal idea. Maharana Pratap also belonged to this dynasty.
