Scottish Gaelic (Goidelic) is a language spoken in some parts of Scotland. The language was once the majority spoken language in Scotland. The decline of Gaelic is often attributed to external influence - which is the primary reason for many languages "falling out of fashion". Today, the vast majority of Scots speak English (or a Scottish dialect of English) which is often unintelligible to other English speakers, often to the amusement of the Scots.

Despite some revival efforts, Gaelic remains spoken by only a small proportion of the population - 1.1% of the population or 57,375 people (According to the 2011 National Census).
