The craze for travelling that we find developing increasingly in our country is doing more harm than good. Many Indians go abroad for the purpose of learning latest developments in different branches of knowledge, especially in natural sciences and technology but when they come back to their mother country are no better than what they were when they had gone abroad. Travelling in different parts of the globe, they merely are different dishes, came across different kinds of peoples and either hey learnt nothing or what they learnt is nothing but bare imitation of foreign ways of living and foreign modes of thought,. We must travel widely, circumnavigating the globe for the purpose of study and of knowledge but we must never forget that imitation can do us no doer. We should borrow good things from whatever country we can but should adopt all the borrowings to the spirit of our own culture and our own way of life. Emerson's warning to his countrymen not to imitate Europe holds good for us also, reminding us that blind imitation will result in cultural decadence, and our day of dependence, our long apprenticeship to the learning of other lands, draws to close.
