Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced lockdown in 15 districts of the state beginning Monday and also said that UP roadways services will be suspended till March 25.
Yogi Adityanath said that 15 districts -- Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Varanasi, Bareilly, Lucknow, Saharanpur, Meerut, Lakhimpur, Barabanki, Murabadabad, Gorakhpur and Azamgarh -- will be under clampdown from March 23 to March 25.
The Uttar Pradesh chief minister also said that no bus will leave the state till further orders.
Yogi Adityanath even appealed to people to perform prayers inside their houses and not visit religious place for worshipping.
As of now, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Punjab and West Bengal have announced a complete shutdown on Sunday amid the novel coronavirus pandemic which has affected over 350 people in India and claimed seven lives in the country.
75 districts across India under lockdown
As India reported a surge in Covid-19 cases and two more deaths on Sunday, the Centre and state governments decided to completely lockdown 75 districts across the country where coronavirus cases have been reported, PTI reported officials as saying.
Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced clampdown in nine districts in the state -- Bangalore urban, Bangalore rural, Mangalore, Mysore, Kalburgi, Dharwad, Chikkaballapura, Kodagu, Belgaum -- where only essential services will work. He said that inter-district transportation across the nine districts will be suspended till March 31.
Sunday noon, Section 144 was imposed in Maharashtra and Delhi, authorities announced that metro services across the nation will be suspended till March 31 in a bid to contain the virus spread.
