Treat the test as a game, have fun with it! ------- Personal Best in a competition https://10fastfingers.com/competition/5fd92fa4d73ee with 57 WPM = 287 CPM Favorite Numbers: 87, 287, 2087 ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 6 - 2020 - 3:50 PM:} Okay... 101 times of the same test? Yeah, worth it! (56 WPM / 281 Keystrokes) DETERMINATION and Muscle Memory are what I'm working towards for Touch Typing ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 7 - 2020 - 6:53 PM:} ((Book Recommendation: [MASTERY])) I heard from a certain YT Channel and it also motivated me to do Typing as a SKILL and I know I can improve doing "Touch Typing" as a skill. What got me here about 2-3 days ago was a recommendation about a certain YT which talks about productivity. Yeah, I'll stick to this statement! - Tips about Typing from both experience and sources: 1. [Remember the keyboard layout] and assign each finger with the keys limited to it. 2. [Rinse and Repeat!] (Yep, obvious enough) 3. [Have fun! Groove around and try not to stay still!] 4. [Have your own "style" to your typing and make typing easier to your body!] - Phases of Typing (for every different keyboard and words) by me taking notes in typing: 1. Layout and Mapping Finger Placement 2. Encounter a word 3. Type the word you see in the Test 4. Take a break after the Test 5. RINSE AND REPEAT - Take a rest, you're gonna need it for long-term training and then get back to training! - Is this where you're not supposed to put your notes down? Oh, sorry about that... Still here? I WILL NOT STOP!!! ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 8 - 2020 - 9:15 AM:} I just did some warm-ups on my fingers which really help me in typing for a while. Here's what I did: Tap the 4 your fingers, which is the [Index, Middle, Ring and Pinky], into your [Thumb] do this until you feel some tiredness and then take a small break and then do the test! Do it the [style of ASMR] which you can hear quite faintly but also still fascinating! [RINSE AND REPEAT!!!] ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 8 - 2020 - 9:50 AM:} You can just [tap your fingers on your thumb or just tap at your desk], [I used it as a warm up]. Just... beware of the noise, so have a "good [ASMR] session!" to test your speed and make noise around your place! Good Day! ============================================================ - {Log from 12 / 9 / 2020 = 4:59 PM - 5:58 PM:} Hmph, goals are fine so... My goal would be to have the [Average Accuracy of more than 87% with less corrections], I just need to type along the job so LET'S GET GOING AND HAVE A WONDERFUL EVENING VISITORS!!!! - Oh I remembered something... 1. Have [a goal in mind], {What do you want to come out knowing something that you don't know before?} That would be Intent, next... 2. Important sub-skills, {What are the parts of the whole skill you need to learn that accompanies your improvement in that field of expertise?} and finally... 3. {Consuming Content from someone better than you and also practicing to see how you do when adding that part when you try it for yourself} or even just practicing what they have by those great people, can be a master but also just people who are more developed in that skill, and it also introduces something different than what you have in mind and have fun with your time! "The [Discovery] in learning is the fun part about trying something new!" Input > Output is how it goes when training for a skill, in this case that would be typing so make sure [YOU DO HAVE A GOAL IN MIND] in learning this skill... - There's always room for learning so TIME TO KNOCK ON THOSE DOORS AND GET GOING! - Comes back in full circle of just doing [Touch Typing] as a skill to learn in typing, am I right about that part of the skill? - Welp, [Learn from the masters] and then [Make the knowledge a part of what you do, essentially applying that knowledge to your work] is what I would say from an fellow learner of typing... - Small side note here (for efficiencies sake okay!): [Shortcut Keyboard Combinations in Typing]: {Ctrl + Backspace = Deleting the Entire Word} {Ctrl + Left or Right Arrow Keys = Hover Between Words} There we go! Have fun learning something new Visitors! ============================================================ - {Log from 12 / 12 / 2020 = 11:48 AM (Saturday)} Try these exercises using your [Notepad] or something to type on: 1. [Close your eyes] when typing 2. [Type your thoughts] on your Notepad 3. Open your eyes after your session in closed eyes typing 4. And then see how much correction you gotta do after that [The Main Goal of this exercise: Just forces your thoughts on the [Notepad] without even looking at anything, so try to be creative in what you are typing~!] (Some thoughts here for a bit 12 - 12 - 2020 5:02 PM) One of the key parts to getting faster is [Deliberate Practice], it's not about how long you have spent practicing the skill but the Quality of your practice, you have to build slowly and surely to get faster. You need to challenge yourself with a goal, doing practices in small but intense increments goes a long way in life... ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 13 - 2020 = 11:52 AM GMT+8} - Build the foundation (or what they call [Fundamentals]) in order to reach the next step, if that would be how it is, then it will be rewarding for you, in the long run that is... Expect a reward even as small for someone else, make that reward true to yourself and help you [ACHIEVE GREATNESS] along the way. Good Luck, Fellow typists! (Salute -->) o7 - NOPE I WILL NOT SHORTEN THIS ONE UNTIL SOMETHING COMES ALONG AND THEN TAKES THIS ACCOUNT DOWN SO HAVE FUN THERE!! - To explain the quote at the bottom of this description (I know it's long enough, I know) in Layman's (as much as I can or what I think I can) The "overnight success" means an achievement that is short and not sustainable, doing something different but not impressive enough for you to see it for yourself and even others, hence in the short amount of time to achieve a goal is not that impressive to yourself. Achieving greatness (rather than saying success) is something to strive for and genuinely something you can value in your life and say along the lines of "I don't regret my actions" means something close to your heart, becoming uncomfortable (or uneasy about yourself) in what you do and having a goal about it, having a purpose. Having a goal goes with failures, where you can learn about that and do something different for a change for the time that is not currently working on the actions that you already made before. Burn first, and you learn about it, stuck it on your mind Knock the door, not looking through the window is more preferable ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 14 - 2020 = 11:07 AM GMT +8} - Huh, practicing about speed... one part about it is reading the "word" that is show in the test. I said reading the "word" is because the word you are actually reading and then typing is related to your speed (which is obvious enough) so... to "remember" what "word" you may be reading you just need to see it A LOT of times and then just type it out LIKE A PIANO, that is one part of doing a skill, taking it by chunks (in this case word by word or by syllables) that will be a fundamental part of the whole typing... If it's wrong then I will see the results of my practices for myself. This log is for accuracy, I'm need accuracy for about more than 95% of the time, that should be my threshold. - Typing Accuracy affects your speed is what my thoughts on making this part of the log... ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 14 - 2020 = 11:33 PM GMT +8} - This is for the typists who still need some practice at the layout of the keyboard. 1. Take a Notepad for using your keyboard 2. Ready yourself, Make sure you are not looking at the keyboard 3. START SPAMMING the key which needs more room for improvement. 4. Until you are a bit tired enough, take a small rest 5. With different keys, different fingers (or digits) are assigned so MASH that key until you are tired Example: In QWERTY Keyboard (Note: only letters for now) - Left Pinky Finger has the A, Q, and Z keys - Left Ring Finger has the S, W, and X keys - Left Middle Finger has the D, E, and C keys - Left Index Finger has the F, R, V, T, G,and B keys - Right Index Finger has the H, Y, N, J, U, and M keys - Right Middle Finger has the K, I, and Comma (,) keys - Right Ring Finger has the L, O, and Period (.) keys - Right Pinky Finger has the Semi-Colon (;), P, and Forward Slash (/) keys This is for making a good layout of the QWERTY Keyboard ============================================================ - {LOG FROM 12 - 15 - 2020 = 10:12 PM GMT +8} - I AM ON FIRE, THIS IS A GREAT FEELING TO HAVE ONCE IN A WHILE PUSHING THROUGH EVEN WHEN YOU ARE TIRED, BUT I AM DETERMINED TO SEE THIS THROUGH - When you are typing in a test, you read the word and then type it down, how about this you just recognize the word and type it down using your fingers and without looking at the keyboard - Repeating subjects? Don't worry I relearn the fundamentals and then actually applying the knowledge that I get, filling in the gaps to help me improve more! ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 16 - 2020 = 10:42 AM GMT +8} Going by instinct is seriously game changing! I just don't need to look at the keyboard. However, the problem that I may be facing is that my right thumb hits my left thumb in using spacebar (_) too much. Nothing serious, but I will train my instinct in my speed and type with more than (>) 95% Accuracy. Yep, you need to rely on your body to do the work instinctively rather than relying on your eyes to Touch Type along. Try Full screen in Typing! It's F11 in browsers (maybe Alt+Enter in some programs) That's all for this log! ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 17 - 2020 = 10:10 AM GMT +8} How about [Typing with the mindset of making as less mistakes as possible]? Having this kind of mindset encourages you to type in as correctly as possible to be able to reach higher and faster in terms of speed and accuracy and waste less time hitting the Backspace key in case you do make mistakes... It is something to keep in mind and just be aware of what you have already learned and try to stick your knowledge on to your productivity in typing... Suggestions are suggestions, you have to see for yourself and take some notes down to see if it does work or not, then try something different if it does not work, making a stronger foundation and already arming yourself with knowledge and experience as time goes on... Make your body go by instinct, since this is a typing test to see how fast and accurate your typing on the keyboard is... Reflexes are what I am improving upon to let my body know where is the keys and how to move my fingers accordingly and smoothly (or gracefully)... ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 17 - 2020 = 10:22 PM GMT +8} Things to keep in mind when typing as fast and as accurate as you can: 1. Keep a good posture, straight back and close to the screen 2. Keep your feet planted at the ground flat 3. Avoid looking at the keyboard 4. Using the Touch Typing method 5. Reading at slightly below eye level 6. Reading as recognizing or seeing what the words are 7. Stop for a bit in typing to type the words correctly 8. Type in chunks or parts instead of the whole to get the word correctly 9. Using multiple fingers in the shortest amount of time 10. Having your own style of typing to get more speed in typing 11. Relax, do not tense too much when typing 12. Rinse and Repeat until you get more faster and smoother 13. Get good sleep since this is just something to enjoy and 14. Don't burn your spirit out in one sitting ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 18 - 2020 = 12:25 PM GMT +8} ---------------------------------------- Things I have learned more about typing faster: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Keep the keyboard close to your hands and not stretch your hands and fingers too far for comfort ||||| 2. Become comfortable with the keyboard using the exercises as warm-ups in typing faster ||||| 3. My satisfying warm-up exercise is doing the layout of the keyboard (in this case the QWERTY Keyboard): ||||| qwert | yuiop ||||| asdfg | hjkl; ||||| zxcvb | nm,./ ||||| Then try using left and right shift as a Capitals | = Used as a divider in category (I think its an OR Symbol when used in basic logic coding, not an I (I as "in") or an l (as in "eel") ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 18 - 2020 = 7:55 PM GMT +8} I just found a "bruh" moment, know about sweet spots? Welp, there is a sweet spot between exerting less energy and making too much noise that can affect your speed in typing, try it out for yourself and see how effective is making smooth movements and less mechanical (stiff is the other word) in the movements you are making, I'm glad I found my own proof (my 2nd attempt was 60 WPM, my first attempt was 31 WPM) https://10fastfingers.com/competition/5fdbe5ce436db/ It is absolutely amazing in my own experience, having learnt about this the hard and experimental way... Do your actions with grace and ease, which is more impressive than trying too hard on just one thing you don't know too much. My left elbow is kinda getting sore, maybe consider my posture and keyboard distance for a bit... To get even faster, (when it comes to typing) you have to be consistent in what you do, even in small times where you just practice for just 10 - 15 minutes, over time you will be comfortable with typing words (both short and long), so long as you actually type and use the methods in typing faster and actually applying it in your routine by practice by the way... For those who can't understand a lot of what I am saying, please just pick out what info you need and get on with your sessions! Anyways, these are my thoughts for this time period, have a wonderful evening visitors! ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 19 - 2020 = 5:12 PM GMT +8} I just watched some pretty tense shows before doing the test, kinda shook me up when a something happens and you REALLY DON'T WANT TO GET A CLOSE VIEW ON THAT... I'm fine so I could do the test in a light manner and not too tensely, kinda like dancing, you get smooth on your moves as you practice with the intent of learning and doing what you want to do... I'm now trying out how light I can type so I can at least know how faster can I get. Depends on your confidence in typing and believing in your body to do the job with yourself guiding in the direction you want... Welp, that's it! See ya later in the next log! ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 18 - 2020 = 7:55 PM GMT +8} Go slowly and surely you can reach the speed you need in reaching your goals for the long term... Actually, when going super accurately, you go "slow", if you go that "slow" then it's good to be doing that because you can concentrate on the words you are typing, even if it's painfully slow, enjoy some calming music along the way to have less stress about your practice and you can take your sessions lightly and with ease. Because, in the long run you need some balance in your life so its also a good way to practice and take it lightly, like a feather... Oh, redundant phrases? Meh, play piano and see what you can do with it! (YEAH!!!) Ever known about the bow and the arrow as a weapon? You need some concentration if you prioritize on your accuracy, the world slows down on you and you see only your target, with a grin and with ease, you hit a bullseye on your target, a reward which you never expected in the first time you entered using the bow and arrow... May be a good analogy but it's rewarding nonetheless... Have a wonderful evening Visitors! o7 (<-- Salutes) ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 20 - 2020 = 7:33 AM GMT +8} Doing something a little different for efficiency (for the purpose of speed), Checklist: Straight Back against the chair, Feet flat against the floor, raised Wrists on the table, Fingers on the keyboard (sweet spot between sticking at the keyboard and typing lightly), find the F and J keys (Found it already!), Take a break later on, and have fun! Note In Later Hours (8:18 PM GMT +8): Seriously, practice proper typing posture and hand placement, it's good practice and less annoying to deal with straining your muscles later on. ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 22 - 2020 = 1:20 AM GMT +8} Welp, hi again and here I am for a little bit of training and a test... Essentially what happened was I took a break and focus on other websites to improve my confidence about accuracy, what I relearned was [Concentrating on what I am actually typing] rather than thinking about something, it is helpful in long-terms that I relearn about something I am forgetting and it's pretty amazing in my own time as I am doing other skills that I am trying personally. (not the obligation part, but playing and learning something new to me!) Achievement is a by-product of what you do, you get to have concentration and feel satiated for a bit when you're doing something in your own time. Bye for now! ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 22 - 2020 = 9:22 PM GMT +8} Yeesh, just found out that occasionally the keyboard presses has been heavier... and then had to add something to the floor because the table was not good at being in a straight line (being level in your hands which can strain you if you're not aware of it) when using the keyboard. Welp, one problem solved (or at least modified to be easier on my body) and then do something about my behavior... Yep, that's it for now! ============================================================ - {Log from 12 - 24 - 2020 = 12:04 PM GMT +8} [As you keep progressing, your depleted energy has already caught up to your body, you take a rest and where you are right now? Back at the starting point, while you have taken good rest you are back somewhere near the starting point, but not exactly the point where you know you have been... You take another path, since it has been long and you have already got a good time and do other stuff] ============================================================ - {Log from 1 - 4 - 2021 = 8:43 AM GMT +8} "Start slow, and then ramp up the speed" <== (My experience with rogue games, Roguevania games particularly) ============================================================ - {Log from 1 - 13 - 2021 = 9:55 PM GMT +8} For those who are learning touch typing here's a little insight about my experience: It gets to the point of an automatic or basically rushed and precise process (something about doing this over and over again in small doses over a long period of time, long-term goals in small bursts in short) when I already have reached a new record, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Both scary, exhausting and most of all, Rewarding for something new as a record to hold and be proud of. Make sure to take care of yourself! (Ergonomic and Health-Wise) Ciao! o/ ============================================================ - {Log from 1 - 13 - 2021 = 10:26 PM GMT +8} I assume you have played some old games (and some new), you do have in mind WHERE the ASWD keys are right? Same thing as the controllers, if you have already used those enough times then you know where it is exactly and I kinda wonder myself WHY I still remember this kinds of details without even looking at the keyboard... Anyway, I have played games using the same keyboard and mouse for a VERY LONG TIME now and I still make mistakes, more or less at 5 years already, yep this old laptop has been here for at least more than 2 - 3 years at the minimum. Is it a good story to talk about? Maybe not, but still interesting to me nonetheless. Yeah, I have been playing old games (More than a month or year old I guess), don't worry too much about the details of what I choose about my games, I just pick what stands out and what I also like and see for myself what it has in store for a good adventure! Is it a good metaphor about using the keyboard? Maybe it's up to you how to understand it in all honesty, *shrugs both arms questioning my phrasing along the way* it's a good way to put some effort in making something big once in a good while... o7 Safe travels out there! ============================================================ - {Log from 1 - 13 - 2021 = 10:46 PM GMT +8} I know since I am already sharing too much information (TMI is short for that phrase) but I think I can get a good acceptance of information (What I meant is I can get a good understanding of what I am hearing in a TV Series Animation, which is both scary and rewarding and also, kinda not what I am going in my own time.) after I have done my practice time. Yes, I practice and try to get as less corrections as possible. 3rd time for the night See ya! ============================================================ - {Log from 1 - 17 - 2021 = 11:24 AM GMT +8} [Having Momentum] If you already have noticed when typing a word it needs a combination of keys when you type in a good speed and not stopping for single moment. Having a good flow of words and being consistent in my speed is my goal when I need to ramp up my speed in typing... Welp, I have nothing more to say, Bayo! ============================================================ - {Log from 1 - 31 - 2021 = 10:07 PM GMT +8} If I say this to myself and get good results about it, then it might help you in your journey in Typing as I have decreased my visits here and became satisfied or just downgraded my intensity when training. ["Don't overthink it, just keep going"] It means don't think about other stuff that will happen and be less stressful on your mind and body when you are doing something that requires some good learning and simple activities. "Hey, it's good to see you again." is what I say to an old friend of mine (Assuming my past self is an old reflection of yourself it's pretty good in the long run). Reflect, but do your duties in a fun and lighthearted way. ============================================================ - {Log from 2 - 2 - 2021 = 10:10 AM GMT +8} "Become water" I can't remember where I got it, but its a good change-up on how I do typing. Just thoughts here nothing new... ============================================================ - {Log from 2 - 3 - 2021 = 8:30 PM GMT +8} [ I am reminding myself in the future] * Is your progress getting slow? Check your notes and logs here, be self - aware that I am just writing this note to myself. In case you're doing something inefficient, check out other references in your logs and other more. If that's all you need, then point it out yourself and see what you can do differently. Also, convince yourself... See ya! ============================================================ - {Log from 2 - 3 - 2021 = 8:37 PM GMT +8} [Replying to myself after two tries] Remembered what you were doing wrong? Okay, CONGRATS! Then you have already feel your way into your keyboard. Other than etiquette, you need to feel the layout of what type of keyboard you are using. For now, QWERTY is your default or your "usual", since you just tried out Dvorak earlier and unsurprisingly, you made progress in being confident on what you need to do. That deserves an applause for coming back and doing things right for a change. *Applause for 3 seconds* See ya later! ============================================================ - {Log from 2 - 3 - 2021 = 8:30 PM GMT +8} " Copy Pasta ", like a picture of a word replicate what you see and make a duplicate of the word with the exact letters on each keystroke. You can make it into chunks to make the grind easier for you. Keep going you will reach the wall inevitably and the internet will be here to help and help yourself by noticing and getting better than the first time around. ============================================================ - I'll keep this quote I have thought about for insight about myself and what I believed about the concept of "ACHIEVING GREATNESS" (from the date: 12 - 12 - 2020) "It's never an overnight success, but what you have within you to achieve success" Tip: Try to lessen the FORCE you are giving when typing with your keyboard, it just needs to be enough to get even faster, not stronger. - Raise your fingers (digits as fingers?) above the keyboard, try not to make so low as you maybe are sticking your fingers to the keyboard. - Have a mental layout of the keyboard (Yes, I meant feeling where and what keys you are touching) - Personal Satisfaction: I like to see for myself that BURST of typing when you do it so flawlessly! Rather than consistent typing I do like to hear some BURST from time to time again! LET'S MAKE SOME NOISE IN TYPING! - My thoughts about learning: I find learning something to be quite satisfying because there is someone to learn about. There is a person who can teach you about a certain subject and I am actually willing to learn and then get faster at typing. What motivates me to learn and then applying what I have learned to reality is the fact that there is someone (not something) that you look up to and then have a part of that creation of them as your own, in practice, this is important for learning any skill. - Relation to my reality is what motivates me in learning. - Keep your reading level (what your eyes can read to see the words) at slightly below eye level, you're gonna hard a hard time if it's too low to read or too high for your neck to sustain reading in long periods of time. - Let your body do the work and feel relaxed when you are doing this, try not to tense your muscles when you are typing ============================================================ - {Log from 1 - 17 - 2021 = 3:01 PM GMT +8} The NOICE Number (NEW RECORD FOR ME in a Personal Typing Test) ============================================================ - {Log from 3 - 4 - 2023 = 10:36 PM GMT +8} Welp, It's been long since I made an update here of all places! I had been doing some, but fairly low amount of new hobbies to take in... But it's more like I'm indulging myself here. LET'S ENJOY OURSELVES, AND HAVE FUN DOING WHAT WE LOVE! Or... Let's find something to enjoy ourselves more! ============================================================ - Started at the Average of 30 - 35 WPM and still learning something new! - Try Full screen! It's (F11) or (Alt+Enter) - HAVE COFFEE-DANCE! (I meant CONFIDENCE!) - LEARN FROM THE MASTERS (I meant someone better than you and try to copy the master as much as you can on a skill) ============================================================ A Modified Quote: "Progress is not linear, you eventually have to rebuild yourself from scratch much stronger than before to exceed your best." ============================================================ Armed with more knowledge and more experienced than before, you see a new path ahead of you... What lies in that door? See for yourself, for you shall be the one to see what value it holds in your life... ============================================================ - GOAL: REACH A CONSISTENT ACCURACY OF MORE THAN 95% ============================================================ Sub-Goal: Make less typos and reach 100% accuracy, meaning training to become as accurate as possible in typing and make corrections as non-existent as possible ============================================================ Sub-Goal: Make my instincts of my body go as smooth and as relaxed as possible, never tense too much and be relaxed to not affect the speed of how I type, kinda like how reflexes work is a great analogy for me! ============================================================ OBJECTIVES: (Editable) _(1)_ Reach 70+ WPM {Yes, I know it's small bump from the 60+ so I can still reach a consistent result from 60 - 65+ WPM... Now it's 70+, wow you still need some good airflow within you to get to this level huh?} _(2)_ Reach a Consistent Accuracy of 98% _(3)_ Have fun in the process! and _(4)_ Take short and needed breaks for long-term practice ============================================================ ACTUAL GOAL: REACH 95 WPM Reoccurring Theme in Typing: "Relearn the Basics!!!"
