Many stories of bravery have been born in India since time immemorial. Perhaps there is no scale to measure their sacrifices, although we cannot turn our eyes away even from those who have brought glory to our country by achieving excellence in their respective fields and have brought us international recognition. Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian honor of our country, awarded for exceptional service in the fields of arts, literature and science and to recognize the highest level of public service. It is also not mandatory that Bharat Ratna Award be given every year. The original feature of the award given as this award consists of a 35 mm diameter circular gold medal, with the Bharat Ratna in the sun and above in the Hindi language, and a bouquet of flowers below and the official sign on the back. The ideal sentence is written. It is worn around the neck with white lace. The design was changed a year later. The tradition of Bharat Ratna Award started in 1954. The first award was given to renowned scientist Chandra Shekhar Venkataraman. Since then this award has been presented to many distinguished people for their excellence in their respective fields. In fact, our former President, Dr. A. P.J. Abdul Kalam has also been given this prestigious award 1997. There is no written provision that Bharat Ratna should be given only to Indian citizens. This award was given by Agnes Gonkha Bojakhiu, who has become a naturalized Indian citizen, Those we know as Mother Teresa and two other non-Indians Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Nelson Mandela 1990. In 2009 the award was presented to renowned Indian singer Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi. Famous cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and eminent scientist Prof. CNR Rao were honored with Bharat Ratna by Pranab Mukherjee President of India in New Delhi on 4 February 2014.
