Man makes manners and manners makes a man. They both go together. A man without manners is a man without sense. One man manage to live well without money if one has the manners. But all the money in the world will not make a man happy if he lacks manners.
Manners make the character of a man. A man of good manners is also a man of good character. A man of bad manners is also a man of bad character.
Good manners costs nothing but they bring a lot of benefit. A man of good manners make a good impression in society. A man of bad manners is not welcome anywhere in the world. All doors are closed to him. He may be rich but nobody welcomes him, because nobody likes him and he makes a nuisance of himself everywhere in the world.
People judge a many by his manners. A man of polished manners finds all doors open to him. He is welcome wherever he goes. He finds his way to the hearts of the kings and ministers.
Good manners spring from the heart. But these can also be learnt by watching the behaviour of other people in the world. Even from a man of bad manners, you can learn the science of good manners. By seeing how people misbehave, you can learn how not to misbehave yourself. One needs to exercise self-control in order to learn good manners. Good manners can be cultivated by carefully observing good and bad behaviour of others. Good people guide you to do what they do. Men of bad manners warn you against doing what they are doing.
Courtesy is the cream of good manners. If you have courtesy, you will get good manners by and by. If you have no inborn courtesy in you, all the books in the world cannot teach you good manners. Courtesy cost nothing and buys everything. Much is forgiven to a man who is civil and courteous.
