The decision to appoint a technical consultant to monitor the implementation of stalled road projects is the need of the hour. This consultant will work to advise the ministry on the use of new technology and materials to reduce costs. One reason for the decision to appoint a technical consultant is that the target of road construction has not been met. When a project is not completed on time, not only does its cost increase, but people also have to face problems. There are many reasons for road projects getting stuck. Sometimes the reason is acquisition of land, sometimes lack of cooperation between the Center and the state and sometimes environmental objections. Sometimes a case gets stuck even after reaching the courts. Many projects are stuck for some reason even after 80-90 percent completion. A few months ago, it was told in the Parliament that there are more than four hundred projects in which 95 percent of the work has been completed, but due to 5 percent of the work not being done, they had to be kept in pending projects. It is expected that the Technical Advisor will not only see that the road projects are completed on time, but will also ensure their quality. Along with this, the technical advisor is also expected to pay attention to the designing and engineering of roads. There are a large number of highways and expressways in our country which have not been constructed properly. Due to this, not only do they disrupt traffic, but they also become witnesses to accidents. It is not right that as highways and expressways are being built, the number of casualties in road accidents is also increasing. In India, about 1.5 lakh people die every year in road accidents. This number is the highest in the world. This is worrying because India has far fewer vehicles than many other countries. Although there are many reasons for road accidents, one of them is poor design of roads. Due to this poor design many major roads have become accident prone areas. It is true that the poor designing of roads is being corrected, but the question is why are they not constructed properly? Of course, it is not only necessary that road projects be completed on time. It is also necessary that projects like railways, bridges, electricity, dams are completed on time. For this, if necessary, other ministries should also appoint technical advisors. The central government should be equally concerned about ensuring that infrastructure projects are completed on time.
